A group of images taken by Chinese satellite SDGSAT-1 to help meet UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was unveiled in Beijing on Monday. It was the first time images from the satellite were released since its launch on November 5 from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, north China's Shanxi Province.

On December 9, the International Science Council (ISC) announced the Global Commission on Science Missions for Sustainability, with the sole purpose of pressing the reset button on efforts to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Guo Huadong, Director General of CBAS, was invited to serve as a member of the commission.

China used a Long March 6 carrier rocket to deploy a science satellite on Friday morning, according to China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp., or CASC, the country's leading space contractor. The State-owned company said in a brief statement that the rocket blasted off at 10:19 am at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi province and later placed the Wide-Eye Geoscience Satellite into its preset orbit.

China launched a scientific satellite that will help nations meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A Long March-6 carrier rocket sent it to orbit from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on Friday. Code-named "SDGSAT-1," it's the very first satellite on Earth to help realize the 17 goals in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" set by the UN in 2015 to stimulate actions in solving social, economic and environmental problems for humanity and the planet.

On November 5, 2021, China sent a new satellite into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. SDGSAT-1 was launched by a Long March-6 (CZ-6) carrier rocket at 10:19 am (Beijing Time) and entered the planned orbit successfully. Developed and operated by CBAS, SDGSAT-1 is the first satellite specially dedicated to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The satellite has three payloads, with a spatial resolution of 30 m for the Thermal Infrared Spectrometer and 10 m for the Glimmer and Multispectral Imagers.

On October 13, during the 2nd International Science Council (ISC) General Assembly, ISC announced its awards for the first time since the International Council for Science (ICSU) and International Social Science Council (ISSC) merged in 2018. Prof. Guo Huadong, Director General of CBAS, was given the Science for Sustainability Award for his innovative contributions to developing Big Earth Data science and applying it to facilitate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from global to local scales through data-driven methods and big data cloud platforms.
