In preparation for the establishment of a Global Digital Compact in 2023, the United Nations is currently accepting opinions and other input in regards to global digital issues. CBAS, as a research center dedicated to utilizing digital technology in achieving SDGs, seeks to gather the experience of experts in the field of sustainable development to submit to the United Nations.

CBAS is launching a pilot call for expressions of interest (EOI) from organizations that are active in big data and sustainable development, and interested in partnering with CBAS to serve the UN 2030 Agenda and make joint efforts to promote, advance, and realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) around the globe.

On June 16, the BRICS Academies of Sciences Beijing Declaration on Big Data for Sustainable Development was signed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Science of South Africa, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy.

On June 16，the 28th World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought, China’s national home event was held in Beijing. Guo Huadong, Director General of CBAS released an online tool, the Great Green Wall Big Data Facilitator, to help Africa countries combat increasingly severe land degradation.

With an aim to promote cutting-edge science and applied research, boosting major scientific and technological output, as well as capacity building for young talents, CBAS launches an Open Research Program (ORP) globally in 2022 to concert efforts from all parties for big data-driven SDGs-related science.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences will enhance dialogue and collaboration with peers from BRICS countries－Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa－to use big data as a tool to achieve sustainable development, scientists said during the BRICS Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development, which began on Tuesday.
