On September 26, 2019, the report Big Earth Data in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals (2019) was released at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. It was one of the four official documents released by the Chinese government at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and one of the two official documents released by the Chinese government at the SDG Summit on September 24-25, 2021. Combining the advantages of Big Earth Data and the characteristics of the SDG indicators framework, the report focuses on SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). A number of typical cases were selected for in-depth study. In these case studies, data, methodology, and decision support were fully discussed to support relevant SDG targets and indicators, and systematic solutions were provided. The case studies gave different priorities to data collection, multi-source data processing, indicator framework construction, and indicator progress assessment. It has been proved that Big Earth Data, as a new scientific methodology, has vitality and great value for SDG monitoring and assessment services for China as well as a large number of developing countries and regions.
