Biography
Deliang Chen holds the August Röhss Chair in Physical Geography and is a professor in Physical Meteorology at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. His research spans Earth System Science, climate dynamics, and global environmental change, with a focus on the Tibetan Plateau’s regional climate impacts on water resources, ecosystems, environments, and agriculture.
He is an elected member/fellow of seven academies and societies, including the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the International Science Council, and the World Academy of Sciences. Chen has participated in numerous international and national committees and boards, including several prestigious science prize committees. He has served as the coordinating Lead Author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Chen’s scholarly achievements include numerous scientific papers and managing international research programs. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and has held leadership positions in several scientific organizations. Examples include Executive Director of the International Council for Science and Science Director for the Beijing Climate Center. He received the 2017 International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China and was recently honored with H. M. The Swedish King’s Medal for his outstanding contributions to climate research.
